DEPUTIES GIVEN LAYOFF NOTICES
Staffing levels would endanger the public

Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown says he has issued letters notifying 17 employees they may be laid off if funds aren't found to pay their salaries between now and the new fiscal year, which is July 1st.

The sheriff says his department has had to make many cutbacks, or keep vacant positions open for the last three years during tight financial times. However, some front-line workers are now in line for job losses due to budget problems. KEYT REPORT
