Ideas listed so far include reorganizing departments, cutting unnecessary divisions, and negotiating with unions to decrease salaries and benefits.

East Palo Alto Police Det. Rod Tuason apparently posted the remarks on his Facebook page in response to a friend's status update, which suggested that gun advocates who carry unloaded weapons openly, which is legal in California, should do so in places like "Oakland, Richmond and East Palo Alto" (more)

San Mateo County deputies' union responds to criticism

The union that represents sheriff's deputies in San Mateo County fired back Tuesday against the county manager's criticism that the labor group does not "recognize the seriousness of our county's budget challenges," saying the union offered to defer salary increases (more)

OC Deputies union approves new pension deal

Members of the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs voted overwhelmingly to approve a tentative  three-year contract agreement with the county, union spokesman George Urch said tonight. (more)
